DRC vs Domaine Leroy

We had quite the night with some spectacularly fantastic wines! Fist was the 07 DRC Montrachet which was oxidized. Unfortunately I couldn’t find much to redeem this bottle… Next was the 3L of 1983 DRC La Tache. This wine was superb! The wine was still young and fresh, thanks to its large format. The wine showed dark raspberries with forest floor, and dried floral notes. The wine continued to get better over a four hour period.

Then we got into the Domaine Leroy. Not in the photo was a 04 Domaine Leroy Vosne Romanee which I initially thought might be aged northern Rhone. The wine has a teriyaki beef jerky note that was backed by dark plums and plenty of earth. the the other big gun came out, the 2007 Domaine Leroy Chambertin. The 07 opened slowly and I initially thought I liked the 04 better. However, after about a hour in the glass the 07 really started to shine with a petite elegance and lightness that was extremely charming. Bright bring cherry with summer flowers, and a sharp minerality characterised this wine, a absolute rockstar.

I think I still will take the 83 as wine of the night but the Chambertin will certainly be a stud in a few more years.
